October 5th: UBC Leadership Breakfast
Held at the Sage Bistro before the 2012 Campaign launched, this annual event was an opportunity to connect with other members of the UBC Community and share ideas of what it means to build and support community. To complement these discussions, third year Arts Co-op student and United Way Loaned Rep Breanna Bishop shared her experiences volunteering with the UBC Community Learning Initiative Trek Program, and how that has inspired her work with the United Way. A story worth hearing and sharing with others.
Oct 11th -The Great Pancake Race IV
On October 11th, the Great Pancake Race IV launched this year’s campaign on October 11th at Koerner’s Plaza between 12:30 and 1:30. A sample of the amazing photos from the event can be found here:

October 19th – Food Services Hot Dog Day
It was a cold day, but that didn’t stop the Food Services team from receiving a tremendous response to the last barbeque of the season! Held 1:30 am to 1:30 pm in front of Trek Express/David Lam, this event featured a hot dog, drink and chips combo for $5.
Oct 17th -Faculty of Education BBQ
With an energetic and enthusiastic organising team, great music, a dancing Carey, and wonderful support from passerbys, the Faculty of Education barbeque raised $1456.07 in support of the United Way campaign. Excellent work!
Oct 25th- Life Sciences Breakfast 8:00-11:00
Held in the Life Sciences Centre- West Atrium, this legendary breakfast featured live music, amazing prizes, celebrity chefs and wonderful food. This year’s event raised $1933.00 in support of the United Way and as in previous years, was an event to remember.
Nov 14th – 3rd Annual UBC Library/United Way Spelling Bee
12:30 – 1:30 in the Golden Jubilee Room in the Irving K Barber Learning Centre.
A much awaited yearly event that brings together spelling teams from across campus, the 4th UBC Library/United Way Spelling Bee was an event to remember.
Oct 15th-19th/Nov 19-23rd Food Services Customer Participation Week
Two weeks in October and November thatDonate $1 at the cash register at any Food Services location in support of the United Way. Make plans with a friend, take a needed break and help your community!
Nov 26th – Sage Bistro 3rd Annual United Way (Auction) Reception
An amazing event featuring a silent auction with incredible prizes (weekend getaway, anyone?), 50/50 draw and wonderful food. This year’s event raised an impressive $4978.00 for the United Way!
Nov 26th – VPS United Way Kick-Off – Paper Airplane Competition
An event that had many curious passerbys stopping to investigate and participate, this event marked the beginning of the VPS United Way Campaign. Participants had an opportunity to design their own planes, and launch them at a height to see how well they fared. Winners will be awarded a trophy.
Nov 27th – VPS Indian Lunch
A lunch held in the Totem Park Ballroom, this warm event had attendees raving about the wonderful, authentic home cooked food, and the excellent chai tea. With butter chicken, chickpeas, rice and samosas on the menu, this was an event that fed the soul and heart, and raised $589!
Nov 26th – Thurs Nov 29th at 12pm – VPS 50/50 Ticket Draw
A 50/50 ticket sale that raised $900 for the United Way! The lucky winner was Teresa Rempel.
Nov 29th – Burger and Pint Night
A popular yearly event, this year’s event raised $ 347 for the United Way! The event was held at The Point Grill Restaurant at Marine Drive Residence.
Tuesday Dec 4th: UBC Campus Security Annual Doughnut Sale.
Yummy treats served from 10-3pm in the SUB South lounge, outside Starbucks.
